Emek Cinema

Emek was one of the most important cultural venues of Istanbul, mainly screening independent movies. The cinema is closed for almost two years now, waiting to be demolished and rebuilt as a shopping mall, just like what has happened to the neighboring block. Thousands of artists, urbanists, activists and citizens are resisting against the gentrification of such an important cultural heritage of Istanbul. People will reclaim the building on the 17th of April (sunday) and screen the Ekümenepolis documentary on the urban transformation process of Istanbul at the cinema.

Date: April 17, 2011

Time: 17:00

Meeting point: Taksim Tram Station and march to Yesilcam Sokak.
